Rabbit – A Family Pet
You want a family pet that wants love and attention, follows you around like a dog and uses a litter box like a cat. That ball of fur hops and can be your perfect pet. We are talking about a rabbit.
Rabbits are gaining more and more in popularity as house pets. They can be trained to use a litter box. I’m not sure if they would share the box with a cat, but who knows!
Because they are a very loving animal, rabbits will follow you around the house like a dog. They may go find their box and then return. Most people would not expect to see a rabbit loose in the house. Do you think guests might be in total amazement?
Rabbits have strong hind legs. They can jump as high as 3 feet into the air. If you want to corral them in a room or enclosure, make sure the gate or fence is tall enough. Because rabbits can jump high they can be trained to jump for show. One thing to watch out for with a rabbits hind feet is they can claw you in an instant.
Rabbits can do and not do some things that humans and other house pets can do. Dogs can snore when they sleep, so can rabbits. I had a pet rabbit that barked at me when I wanted to put her in her house. She would back up into a corner and bark at me like a dog when she did not want to be picked up. One thing that rabbits can’t do is up chuck what they eat like other animals. It is important they only ingest foods that are good for them.
There are a few cautions to be taken with rabbits. Rabbits love to chew. They are not fussy. They will chew on an electrical cord or most anything else. I had one of the original style video cameras. I set it down while I got another tape. When I returned there was a good sized nip taken out of the rubber eye shield.
Food, water, a safe place to sleep and a lot of love will make for a very happy and content pet rabbit.
